There are a million reasons why our homes don't look as finished as those featured in major house magazines, not least of which is professional photography and lighting. Life gets in the way. Kids, careers, health, family. Focusing on all the details that create the well appointed home is a full time job. And most of us already have one of those.
But I'm here to tell you these finishing touches are worth their weight in gold. It took me forever to decide on, to purchase and to transport fabric to my seamstress for the dining room chairs and curtains. I don't know why I waited! My dining room is absolutely transformed and feels so much more lived in than it ever has before.
I'm much more type A in hitting deadlines with my business. After all, at work I have an obligation to others to get the job done. Not so myself. How many times do you walk by an area of your house and say, hmmm something is just not right. And it can take time to find that something right. I've made mistakes and I'm pretty sure many others out there have made them too. I don't think this vintage portrait I found this weekend is a mistake though. I adore old paintings and especially portraits. I like to place them in the most unexpected locations. Here our new doyenne hangs in the upstairs hall in a spot that simply was of no interest. I like her bustle and her kind, motherly eyes. The colors in this portrait actually fit in a number of spots in my house.
Finishing touches like slip covered chairs, custom curtains and finding just the right accessories takes time. We're here to help. Often customers will email us photos of rooms they are trying to pull together. Sometimes just the right lamp is what is need. Or the perfect piece of art. I, or one of my team, are happy to make suggestions. Let's see what you are looking for. We are here to help.
