“Fall is the season of hunger and movement and panic.”
I always think of this phrase when fall rolls around. The leaves are beginning to whirl and scutter across the ground. Even the animals seem to tense up with a sudden urgency, as though they know change is coming and it’s time to move.

The idea for this wallpaper seemed simple enough: stags and deer moving through a forest. But I didn’t want them simply standing about looking picturesque. I wanted them running, chasing, stopping suddenly to listen—magnificent creatures caught up in some unseen drama, and in the very basic business of staying alive.
Getting there was harder than I expected. I drew and redrew the animals, changed their scale, moved them around, took things away and put them back. At various points it was too orderly, too decorative, too busy—or simply not alive enough.
Eventually it began to have the feeling I was after: a slightly frantic hunt through the woods, with enough open space around the animals to let the eye move with them. You don’t quite know what they are running toward—or away from. I like that bit of ambiguity.
Here is an AI generated mockup in a bathroom....

And here I have placed it in a restaurant setting to show scalea and repeat...

It is a bold wallpaper—and, if I say so myself, a sophisticated one. I can imagine it wrapped around a powder room, where you could really have some fun with it, or giving a dining room enormous character. It isn’t meant to sit quietly in the background.
Some designs come easily. This one didn’t. There was a lot of drawing, erasing, moving, enlarging, reducing and starting again. Not exactly the life-and-death struggle going on in the woods, but a struggle nonetheless.
In the end, I wanted the wallpaper to feel beautiful, a little wild and very much alive.
