Summer is the best time to pause, relax and take stock of our busy lives. Unfortunately for me, I got hit with pneumonia and am just now getting back on my feet! But I'm back now, scheming and planning for the future. I wanted to share some of my latest exciting finds.
Last week I came across the photo below of a long living room by Susan Crater in Frederic Magazine. This is the ultimate room for summer entertaining. Notice the hooked rug layered over a striped dhurrie on top bleach blond floorboards. The walls are a crisp white and the windows in this space are abundant. My favorite detail of all is the quilt covered table and a framed remnant of chinoiserie wall paper. Flowers, antiques and ample seating guarantee comfort and calm. A room like this is what I call 'windswept", fresh airy and clean. For those of you who don't know, Susan Crater is the granddaughter of Sister Parish, the woman who made homespun decor super chic. Susan and her daughter have resurrected many of the patterns that put Sister Parish on the map and have beautifully outfitted her entire home. Check out the full article here.
Another one of my favorite inspiring photos comes from the editors at House Beautiful and features an ornate mantel tricked out in high gloss fuschia. Why didn't I think of this?
I can't wait to try this out! While this designer paired the mantel with an equally splashy rug, colorful mantels can be right at home in even a traditional house.
I've recently 'retired" but plan to continue making art and designing wallpaper and fabric, all available on my website. I have more time on my hand than ever! Chores I once rushed through, I now stretch out over the day to be completed at my leisure. This recent blue tipped parrot portrait is a fave new project and comes in a faux tortoise vintage frame. Pls click on the photo for details. Only one available.
These two floral studies are new to the site as is a new floral fabric which looks particularly luxurious printed on a belgian line.
More one of a kind art is available in my collection called Sundry Art. Only singles available.
