Let’s be honest — as much as I adore and appreciate my husband's gracious attempt to find me something special, he doesn't always nail it when it comes to picking out presents. I've been told I'm picky and for those of you who lean that way, there's definitely no shame in being your own best Santa.
I've found over the years that personal shopping isn’t selfish — it’s a small act of balance I like to practice in a season that at times for me at least, results in a hectic spending frenzy. Buying yourself something special can recharge your spirit, remind you of what you like, and make the season feel a little more sparkly and special.
So this year, I’m adding one more celebration to the calendar — Selfmas. A quiet, private little holiday dedicated to finding joy in something just for me. No stress, no guesswork — just that pure, simple delight of choosing something I truly love.
Below are some items I've picked out but not quite pulled the trigger.

Jewelry holder by Meg Carter Design, Black Velvet evening jacket by Boden, a plaid jacket by Cara Cara NYC , a toile pink limoge like box from Open Sky Antques and charming tea towels by Reprotique.
Of course, there are plenty of luxuries we tend to deny ourselves — the high-priced fashion pieces, the fine jewelry or little baubles we admire but rarely justify, and let’s face it, even art. These indulgences might not be needs, and yes, they can make the credit card sigh, but they’re also the very things that bring us real pleasure and satisfaction. There’s something deeply affirming about surrounding yourself with beauty — pieces that reflect your taste, your personality, your joy. When we treat ourselves with the same care we pour into others, it creates a little loop of generosity that keeps the spirit of the season alive — and averts the burnout.
So yes, buy that thing you love. The holidays can be about giving and receiving, and sometimes the best gifts are the ones we choose for ourselves.
